Director Bartosz Grzybowski, Center for Algorithmic and Robotized Synthesis (CARS) : "Our research center focuses on discovering new chemical reactions and catalysts. We study the characteristics of chosen materials, experimental conditions, and nearly every aspect using AI and robots. When a new reaction or catalyst is found, researchers often name it after the discoverer, like the "Suzuki reaction" (2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry) or "Grubbs catalyst" (2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry). With AI, we can discover so many reactions that attaching a person's name to each one would lose its meaning. We attribute the credit to AI instead. In a recent paper, we named newly discovered reactions MACH-1 and MACH-2, where MACH refers to "machine," representing AI."
